Theme: DIY PR: Building a campaign and creating your press kit

At its core making music is something I do for myself to satisfy a deeper part of me that seeks to know the world a little better. Yet, having the tools and knowledge to properly represent myself as an indie artist has been vital to my growth and development. I hope to share any insight I can to give artists the confidence and know-how to release independently.

Emma Miller is an independent artist from Scotland. She has been releasing music since 2017 and gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in the process. From the tentative first steps of performing at open mic nights around London, to selling out headline shows, releasing under her own label ‘House On The Rocks Records’ and now offering guidance and support to others on all the ins and outs of building a press kit and everything you need to consider when releasing music as an independent artist.

With comparisons to artists such as Laura Marling and The Staves, Emma Miller is an artist whose music offers deep emotional connection and solace. It’s been featured in the likes of The 405, Wonderland, Chalkpit Records and gained radio support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing in Scotland.

Without the bright lights of major labels and the big budgets that come with it, Emma has been able to develop a framework for successfully releasing independently. Having gained notable coverage for her releases, built up relationships within the music community and extended her skills to working with other artists on their campaigns, Emma is now in the position where she can offer practical, insider skills and advice on how to create and manage a campaign as a fully independent artist.
